After working for all of three years after graduating I decided to have some fun instead and disappear on a trip around the world. I'll post pics on here time to time if your interested to see where I've been while you've been stuck in work!

More pics from up a tall building - Melbourne

Melbourne

12 Apostles

Great Ocean Road

From St Kildas/Melbourne I went on a trip down the great ocean road. A famous road traveling along part of the south coast of Australia, constructed by solders during the depression to give them something to do. Its a really spectacular drive passing some amazing sceney, beaches, cliffs, through rain forest. The first section is the surfers coast the most east section of the road getting near to Geelong. Theres some amazing beaches along here including Bells beaches a world famous surfers beach where they hold world championships. The top two pics are of Bells beach. The next two are pics along the route and the Kiola is a wild one we spotted somewhere along the route.

St Kildas

Top photo is Lunar Park, based on the one that was on Stanton Island, New York. The others are taken around St Kilda's at a weekend market and around the beach. St Kilda's is a beach based suburb of Melbourne. Its a really cool place. When I first arrived in Victoria I spent a few days chilling around here. Plus its got some cool bars.

Southwest Aus

Due to time constraints I went on a long day trip round the southwest tip of Australia, visiting a few places around albany and denmark on the south west coast of Aus. The walkway in the pics takes you through the tree canopys high of the ground in an area of forest with apparently the third tallest trees in the world. The walkway was pretty high anyway and had some top views of the forest.
The south west coast also had some amazing beaches. It think this one was williams bay although it was a few months ago and my memory may mistake me! Its pretty nice anyway!

Rottnest Island

Rottnest Island is a short ferry ride away from Fremantle and Perth. It is an island formally used to house an army barracks and before that a lighthouse to guide boats atempting to head aorund the south of australia. Now it is more of a holiday island with plenty of little bays and beaches to explore. The island is small enough to hire a bike and pedal around although its tiring work when really hot!
The wallaby like creature is a quokkes which I think are unique to the island. The original european (dutch I think) discoverers of the island thought they were giant rats, hence the name
rottnest island.

Fremantle

Fremantle is a town south east of Perth at the mouth of the Swan River where it empties into the ocean. Its a great little town with a real laid back cafe culture with some great beaches near by. It is also home to a prison, shut down as recently as the early 1990's that was built by covicts in the 1800's. The prison remains pretty much how it was when the prisoners were housed there and was only shut down after a riot which set a wing on fire and the fire enginers couldn't fit through the gates to get into the prison grounds to fight the fire.
The tour round the prison was really good gave an idea of how unpleasant prison life would have been like in there.

AUSTRALIA - Perth

Arrived in Perth, Western Australia on the 3rd of december. From what I had been told I was expecting it to be unbeliveably hot and although it was hot, as it wasn't humid like it had been in South East Asia it actually felt really pleasant. Perth is a very relaxing city having more of a small town feel to it than a city one. You can walk across the entire city centre in very little time at all. The city is very clean with a nice park up on a hill with some fantastic views over the city and the Swan River. Had a few days here staying here adjusting to not being surrounded by asians which had become normal and being surrounded by manily caucasian people actually made me feel a bit uneasy for some reason.

Singapore

Singapore is another modern city with a very multicultural population. It has some intersting areas like Raffles Place in the centre of the city named after Sir Stamford Raffles the founder of modern singapore. It also had some museums like the asian civilisations museum which contained loads of intersting history of not just singapore put the whole of asia and how they're all linked together.
The 'mascot' of the city is the merlion a half lion half fish creature whose statue spirts out water with the cbd skyline behind it.
